409 Stainless Steel
Type 409 Stainless Steel is a stabilized ferritic stainless steel with a chromium content ranging from 10.50% to 11.70%. It is widely used in applications requiring superior oxidation and corrosion resistance compared to carbon and carbon-coated steels.
409 stainless steel is available in Hot Rolled Annealed and Pickled (HRAP) #1 and Cold Rolled 2B or 2D surface finishes. Originally developed for automotive exhaust systems, it is now utilized across various industries, including non-automotive exhaust systems, trucking, power generation, heat exchangers, silencers, fuel filters, agriculture, spreaders, woodstoves, furnaces, transformers, tubing, and casket components.
Known for its high-temperature performance, good form-ability, and excellent weld-ability, 409 stainless steel offers a cost-effective solution for demanding applications. It is available in thicknesses ranging from .006″ to .500″.
409 stainless steel meets the latest revisions of the following specifications:
- ASTM A240/A480
- ASME SA-240/480
- ASTM E112
