409 Stainless Steel

A stabilized FERRITIC stainless steel (Chromium content 10.50 min, 11.70 max.) widely used where oxidation and corrosion protection needs to exceed that of carbon and some carbon coated steels. 409 is available in Hot Rolled Annealed and Pickled #1 (HRAP) and Cold Rolled 2B or 2D surface finishes. Originally developed for automotive exhaust systems, end users of 409 stainless steel also include manufacturers of non-automotive exhaust systems, truck, power generation, heat exchanger, silencer, fuel filter, farm, agricultural, spreader, woodstove, furnace, transformer, tubing and casket equipment components. 409 performs well in high temperature environments, offers good formability and weldability and all at an economical price point. Available thicknesses range from .006″ to .500”.

409 meets the following specifications to include their latest revisions: ASTM-A-240/480, ASME-SA-240/480, and ASTM E112.
